On 21 October, 2009, PROFOR participated in the 8th World Forestry Congress by hosting a side event on the "Impacts of the New Wave of Investment in Large-Scale Farming on Forests and People".The event consisted presentations by Derek Byerlee (CGIAR) on biofuels, land, forests and people, with emphasis on Asia and Africa; and Pablo Pacheco (CIFOR) on Impacts of global trade and farm investments on forests and people, with emphasis on Latin America. The following decisions had been reached during the PROFOR 2009 Advisory Board Meeting: Approved the alignment of FLEG and PROFOR.Approved the revised operational guidelines reflecting thealignment.Accepted activities proposed under catalytic and programmatic windows, and topics under the Requests for Proposals window, requesting that PROFOR ensure each activity adds value.
