The priority role of forests in mitigation and adaptation to climate change
Aware of their extreme vulnerability to climate change, Central American countries are taking measures to address climate change, including submitting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). To help them achieve their climate goals, representatives from seven Central American and Caribbean countries met in Panama from January 30 – 31, 2019, for a technical dialogue on how to implement forest and land use commitments set out in their NDCs. At the workshop, participants identified and prioritized activities for conservation, management, and restoration of forest landscapes that contribute to the achievement of their commitments on climate change.
The regional event was organized jointly by PROFOR, the World Bank, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) through the Green Development Fund for the SICA region, the Organization of the United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO) and the NDC Partnership.
